DAY 1              D

Our first stop today is the Geronimo Springs Museum in Truth or Consequences. For over forty years, the museum has been a repository of local history, displays, and educational information. Displays of prehistoric fossils, Native American arrowheads and pottery, and a furnished cabin dating to the 1930s are available for us to peruse at our leisure. Leaving the past, we head to the future at Spaceport America. The site has been described as "the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport" because it is the first spaceport designed and constructed specifically for commercial users that had not previously been an airport or federal infrastructure of any kind. The site is built to accommodate both vertical and horizontal launch aerospace vehicles, as well as an array of non-aerospace events and commercial activities. We take a guided tour of this incredible facility. One night’s lodging in T or C.

DAY 2              B,L

We head to Trinity Site on the White Sands Missile Range and see Ground Zero, where the first atomic bomb was detonated in July 1945.  Our final stop for the day is the Mineral Museum on the NM Tech campus. What started as a modest collection of 1,000 specimens in 1938 has grown to over 18,000. We’ll enjoy fascinating and spectacular displays, including “Coronado’s Treasure Chest”. We continue north, and home to Albuquerque.
