The greens of New England are turning gold and red as we explore Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. This is some of our country's most beautiful and historic locations and the best time of year to see it all!
Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D
We fly to Boston, Massachusetts’ capital and largest city, and head to our Boston area hotel.
DAY 2 B,D
This morning, we board the Amtrak Downeaster train to Maine. Our local guide will meet us for a driving tour of the coastal village of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. This afternoon, we’ll enjoy free time in Perkins Cove, with its Marginal Way Shoreline Walking Path, benches to sit and watch the ocean roll in, boutiques and bobbing lobster boats. We check in to our hotel, then rejoin our group for a delicious lobster dinner.
DAY 3 B,L,D
We head to the Conway Scenic Railway for our trip on the Notch Train, where we will travel on what was once the Maine Central Railroad’s famous Mountain Division. We pass some of the most dramatic scenery in New England as we travel through spectacular Crawford Notch. Sheer bluffs, steep ravines, cascading streams and mountain vistas will be adorned with autumn colors. On board the train there will be live commentary about the history and folklore of the railroad and area. We check in to our New Hampshire hotel for one night. Tonight, we enjoy the Café Lafayette Dinner Train with a 5-course dining experience on a beautifully restored Pullman dining car, with music and the magnificent mountain vistas passing by.
DAY 4 B,D
Today we’ll explore New Hampshire. A boat ride on Lake Winnipesauke, one of the largest lakes enclosed in one state, brings us to Wolfeboro, the oldest summer resort in America. We enjoy free time for lunch and shopping in Wolfeboro, then tour the Wright Museum with its fascinating exhibits about military and home-life in World War II. In the late afternoon, we board the Winnipesaukee Railroad Turkey Dinner Train. We enjoy delicious hot roast turkey with all the trimmings during our two-hour trip along the lake.
DAY 5 B,L,D
Today we travel by coach into the Berkshires via Vermont. First we'll visit the Vermont Country Store, well known Purveyors of the Practical and Hard-to-find. After our included lunch at the Publik House, we enjoy a visit to we visit the Bennington Apple Barn, where we will experience an all-wooden Country Market with wonderful aromas and goodies. We will be able to bring home pure Vermont Maple syrup, homemade jams and preserves, award winning cheeses and more. We lodge two nights in our Berkshires hotel.
DAY 6 B, D
It’s almost time to head home, but first we enjoy a Fall Foliage Leaf-peeper tour along the Berkshires scenic back country roads. We’ll enjoy stops at Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony, and Stockbridge Bowl, a beautiful lake surrounded by the glorious fall colors, before arriving in Stockbridge, a picture-postcard town, where Norman Rockwell lived and worked. We can explore the Rockwell Museum on our own, stop in the Red Lion Inn to view its extraordinary teapot collection and shop in Stockbridge’s many quaint shops. Farewell dinner tonight.
DAY 7 B
Early this morning we head to the airport for our flight home filled with memories of the fabulous fall colors and wonderful New England.
