Day 1 - Journey to Colorado

Start your Colorado Aspens adventure with a swift departure from Sun Tours, stopping briefly at the Meadowlark Senior Center before heading off on our journey with rest stops on the way. Enjoy an independent lunch in the captivating town of Durango, followed by awe-inspiring views at Molas Pass Viewpoint and a short break in the quaint town of Silverton.

Arrive and settle into Hampton Inn Montrose before heading out for a group dinner, ending your day on a delightful note.

Day 2 - Apples & Aspens

Enjoy an early breakfast at Hampton Inn Montrose before checking out and embarking on a scenic journey to the Black Canyon Viewpoint. Marvel at the stunning chasm views, and then proceed to the Visitors’ Center for an immersive experience.

Continue your adventure with a delightful included lunch at Big B’s Orchard, where you can also enjoy a tour and yummy cider tasting. To really indulge in the tastes of fall. Depart refreshed and head to the breathtaking McClure Pass Overlook. McClure Pass is situated in the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of about 8,755 feet (2,668 meters). The pass is known for its stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and forests.

Conclude your day with a check-in at Aspen Square Condos in Aspen, setting you up perfectly for a night of exploration or relaxation. Dinner is on your own to relax and unwind from the day at your leisure.

Day 3 - Aspen Retreat

Start your day with a delightful breakfast at Jour de Fête, a local favorite in Aspen. Embrace the beauty of the Rockies with a shuttle trip to the iconic Maroon Bells, where pristine nature and breathtaking views await. Revel in the tranquility of the John Denver Memorial Gardens, a serene spot dedicated to the late singer’s memory and love for Aspen. The gardens provide a peaceful retreat amidst your adventurous day.

Enjoy a leisurely afternoon with an independent lunch and free time to explore Aspen’s charming streets, boutiques, and cafes. Conclude your day with a Wine and Snack Party in the fresh mountain air, set in the hotel’s outdoor pool area. Delight in a curated selection of cheeses and snacks, preparing you for an evening of exploration as dinner is at your leisure in the vibrant town of Aspen.

Day 4 - Silver History in Leadville

Kickstart your day with a scrumptious breakfast at Poppycock’s. Bid farewell to Aspen Square as you gear up for a day of exploration and fun, starting with a visit to the charming downtown of Leadville. Immerse yourself in the local culture and pick up unique souvenirs during your shopping time in this historic town. At an elevation of 10,152 feet (3,094 meters), Leadville holds the distinction of being the highest incorporated city in North America and is known for it’s massive silver boom in the 1late 19th century.

Post-lunch, delve into the rich history of the region with a visit to the Gunnison Pioneer Museum. Conclude your day with a relaxing check-in at the Holiday Inn Express in Gunnison.

In the evening, relish a hearty included dinner at Ol’ Miner Steakhouse, a local favorite renowned for its delicious steaks and welcoming ambiance. Return to the hotel for a good night’s rest, gearing up for another day of exploration and fun.

Day 5 - Scenic Journey Home

Begin your day with an energizing breakfast at the hotel, preparing you for the adventures ahead. Check out from Gunnison Holiday Inn and embark on a scenic journey, making your way towards the picturesque town of Lake City for a brief stop. As you depart Lake City, seize the opportunity to capture breathtaking photos at San Cristobal Reservoir Overlook and other scenic spots along the way.

Continue to North Clear Creek Falls, a natural wonder nestled between the mountains, providing a serene backdrop for a break and photo opportunities. Head to Creede for an independent lunch.

After you’re refueled, continue on your journey home; marking the end of a day filled with breathtaking scenery, charming towns, and memorable moments.

Expectations: Expect a moderate amount of walking. There will be time to rest on the coach and between attractions. To enjoy this tour, you should be prepared to walk slightly longer distances, climb stairs and tolerate periods of standing, for example on city walks, sightseeing stops or ship excursions. The daily pace and timing can fluctuate significantly between longer and shorter travel days, with additional activities possibly occurring in the early morning or evening. There may be some changes in altitude or temperatures.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

GRATUITIES/ITEMS INCLUDED IN PRICE

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is included on this tour. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach drivers. Hotel housekeeping tips are not included.

LODGING REQUESTS

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

Colorado's weather in September is generally mild and comfortable, making it one of the best months to visit the state.

Temperature:
Daytime: Temperatures range from 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 27°C), depending on the region.
Nighttime: It gets cooler at night, with temperatures dropping to 30°F to 50°F (−1°C to 10°C).

Precipitation:
Generally low, but afternoon thunderstorms are still possible, particularly in the mountains.

What to Wear:
Layers are key as temperatures can vary significantly throughout the day. A light jacket or sweater for the evenings. Sunscreen and a hat for daytime sun protection. Wear comfortable shoes for walking on various terrains.
