Big Bend & Carlsbad Caverns National Parks
May 20, 2024 thru May 25, 2024
There is a place in Far West Texas where night skies are dark as coal and rivers carve temple-like canyons in ancient limestone. Here, at the end of the road, hundreds of bird species take refuge in a solitary mountain range surrounded by weather-beaten desert. Tenacious cactus bloom in sublime southwestern sun, and diversity of species is the best in the country. This magical place is Big Bend. The dark night skies make this area a perfect place to stargaze and tour at MacDonald Observatory. We’ll start our tour with a visit to Carlsbad Caverns.

WEATHER AND CLOTHING/MISC. SUGGESTIONS
The average temperature in West Texas in May for a typical day ranges from a high of 88°F to a low of 55°F. In New Mexico, temperatures are similar. Some would describe it as very warm with a gentle breeze. We advise you bring a light jacket, gloves and hat just in case of inclement weather and to wear layers for best insulation.
