Wake up your senses with our journey to the Skagit Tulip Festival and Seattle! We explore the beautiful tulip farms of the Skagit Valley and enjoy the events of their annual Tulip Festival. We experience the dazzling fields of flowers at RoozenGaarde and Tulip Town and walk the homemade quilt show in Anacortes. On our way back to Seattle, we see the Future of Flight Museum and take the amazing Boeing Factory Tour in Everett. Our adventures in Seattle include a ferry ride to spend the day on Bainbridge Island and tours of the world-famous Pike Place Market and the Chihuly Garden and Glass.

Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D

Day 1          D

We fly into Seattle and continue by motorcoach to the Hampton Inn & Suites in Burlington for a two-night stay. Tonight we will enjoy a welcome dinner along the Skagit River at The Front Gallery in Mt. Vernon.

Day 2           B, L, D

Today we begin with a visit to the Washington State University Discovery Garden in Mount Vernon, Washington. We meet our Master Gardener guide for the day and explore some of the 30 demonstration gardens there. We continue to Tulip Town, where we will tour their blooming tulip fields, see the original historical equipment from the earliest days of the tulip industry, and get a close-up view of their famous planted tulip rainbow! Tulip Town has the only indoor flower and garden show (in case of rain.)  After lunch at the Farmhouse Restaurant, we visit RoozenGaarde, the largest flower bulb grower in North America, to see their flower fields, art, display garden, 25 acres of tulips, 22 acres of daffodils, authentic windmill and, of course, gift shop!  We finish our day at the Kiwanis Salmon BBQ in Mt Vernon.

Day 3           B

We head west to Anacortes, across the narrow Guemes Channel from the San Juan Islands! Explore the Anacortes Quilt Walk, with more than 70 quilts in the shops and storefronts along the town’s main street. After a chance to visit shops, galleries and public sculpture in La Conner, we travel to Everett to tour the Future of Flight Museum and the Boeing Airplane Factory, the world’s largest building by volume. We then check into the Staybridge Suites, in South Lake Union Seattle, for a three-night stay while we explore the city.

Day 4           B,D

We travel the short distance to Seattle Center, home to Chihuly Garden and Glass, 1.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, a 40-ft high conservatory and galleries filled with Dale Chihuly’s brilliant and brightly colored glass sculptures. We ride to the top of the Space Needle, Seattle’s skyline icon from the 1960 World’s Fair; the view of Seattle and the surrounding water, urban landscape and snowcapped mountains is spectacular! After exploring the vibrant Pike Place Market (where they throw the fish!), we will visit the Klondike National Historical Park Visitor Center and Museum, which chronicles the impact of the Yukon Gold Rush on Seattle. This evening we gather for a delicious group dinner at Blueacre Seafood, whose local owners’ passion is “responsible, approachable and amazing seafood.”

Day 5           B

This morning we board classic ferry boats and sail across Elliott Bay to Bainbridge Island, with its incredible landscapes, where we disembark and drive to Bloedel Reserve, a 150-acre public garden and forest preserve. We’ll walk forested paths to the largest public moss garden in the U.S., the Reflection Pool, the Japanese Garden and the Bird Marsh and Meadows. Following free time for lunch in Poulsbo on the island, we visit the Naval Undersea Museum, which explores the US Navy’s undersea history, covering everything from ships to submarines, weaponry to search and rescue and technology to the ocean environment!  We ferry back to Seattle and our hotel, where we will have a quiet evening to prepare for our trip home tomorrow. (B)

Day 6        B

This morning we depart SeaTac Airport for our flight back to home, bringing memories of green vistas, visions of tulips and dancing waters in our heads.
