San Francisco is one of America’s most beloved cities—cosmopolitan, colorful, and cultured. Our hotel, the Zephyr, is just 1000 ft from Pier 39 Fisherman’s Wharf. The holiday-decorated department stores, cable cars and Chinatown are nearby. What a fun place to spend Christmas!
Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D
DAY 1 D
We fly to San Francisco, then transfer to Pier 39. We can explore on our own and enjoy lunch. After checking in to our hotel, the Zephyr, we gather for dinner together.
DAY 2 B
This morning starts with a driving tour of San Francisco. It may measure less than 50 square miles and have a population that doesn’t even crack a million, but San Francisco justly ranks as one of the greatest cities in the world. Famous for grand-dame Victorians, cable cars, a dynamic waterfront, and a soaring golden bridge, this city truly has it all. We have the afternoon to continue explorations on our own. Tonight, we enjoy a performance of the classic Christmas favorite, The Nutcracker by the San Francisco Ballet.
DAY 3 B, L
This morning we head north into the Napa Valley. Rolling hills covered with vineyards surround us, and we have stops at two of those vineyards for tastings, Mumm and V. Sattui. After lunch at V. Sattui, we return to our hotel for the evening and dinner on our own.
DAY 4 B, D
It’s Christmas Day! We’ll explore beautiful Muir Woods, crossing the graceful spans of the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County to reach Muir Woods National Monument, where redwood trees reach the heavens. We return to our hotel for a short rest. Our formal Christmas dinner tonight is aboard the Hornblower as we sail the San Francisco Bay.
DAY 5 B
Our thoughts begin to turn toward home, but we have time to enjoy the DeYoung Museum, the 5th most visited museum in the nation. It showcases American art from the seventeenth through the twenty-first centuries, international textile arts and costumes, and art from the Americas, the Pacific, and Africa. We can enjoy more shopping (hurray, it’s the day after Christmas!) before heading to the airport with warm memories of our Golden Gate holiday.
