DAY 1 D
We leave Albuquerque and head north to the Colorado border. Durango is a lovely little town nestled in the beautiful San Juan Mountains next to the Animas River. It was founded as the head of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad during the mining expansion of the 1870s. The Strater Hotel, our home for one night, has been operated by the Barker Family for 3 generations. Adorned with beautiful woodwork, period wallpaper and stunning Victorian walnut antiques, it is truly an American icon. After our check-in, we head to the Train Depot for THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride. The award-winning book by Chris Van Allsburg, the story of a child's Christmas Eve journey to the North Pole, comes alive! We will enjoy the experience, warmth and fun of the Christmas season on this special trip. Back at the Strater, we enjoy Christmas Eve dinner together.
DAY 2 B,L
Merry Christmas! We check out of our hotel and take a scenic drive to Bishop’s Lodge for our delicious Christmas Day dinner. We head for home, full of holiday memories.
