Pennsylvania is filled with rich history and the warm comfort of Amish Country. From Philadelphia, center of America’s birth, to the rolling hills of Lancaster County to world famous Hershey chocolate - we’ll enjoy it all. With a side trip to Delaware to explore the spectacular gardens of Nemours Estate and Winterthur, we’ll indulge all our senses on this unforgettable tour.
We depart the Albuquerque Sunport and fly east to Philadelphia to lodge three nights.
DAY 2 B,D
We begin our exploration of the birthplace of the United States of America, where both the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution were written. A driving tour gives us an overview of the historical sights. Then we enjoy a visit to the Barnes Collection, home to one of the world's greatest collections of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and early Modernist paintings. This evening we enjoy dinner on our cruise on the Spirit of Philadelphia.
DAY 3 B
Today we focus on American History with visits to the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Museum of the American Revolution.
DAY 4 B,D
Today is a sweet day indeed with visits to Hershey and its Hershey Story and Chocolate World. We’ll work off a few calories with a guided tour of the Pennsylvania State Capitol before checking in to our hotel which is shaped like a steamboat and our home for the next two nights. This evening we’ll enjoy a group dinner.
DAY 5 B,L
Pennsylvania Amish country is a picturesque landscape that must be witnessed in person to be fully appreciated. Rolling hills with lush grasses and crops, farms with windmills dotting the horizon, and horse and buggies sharing the road remind us that things are simpler here. We’ll tour an Amish farm, homestead and school, then experience the Ultimate Four Mile Country Buggy Ride. Later we enjoy Queen Esther at the Sight and Sound Theatre in a lavish production, with spectacular sets and costumes, animals on stage and an original score.
DAY 6 B,D
We say goodbye to Pennsylvania for a short time and head to the Nemours Estate, a 300-acre country estate with jardin à la française formal gardens and a classical French mansion in Wilmington, Delaware. We’ll find this is not the only gorgeous estate in Delaware when we take the short drive to Winterthur, the former home of Henry Francis du Pont. The Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library house some of the most significant collections of Americana in the United States. We check in to our Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania hotel for one night and enjoy a group dinner.
DAY 7 B
Our thoughts must turn toward home, but we still have time to enjoy the Longwood Gardens, 1,077 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows. We make our way home, enjoying memories of the beauty and history of Pennsylvania.
