The magic and excitement of the holiday season come to life in the glowing wonderland of New York City. From the iconic Rockefeller Center Tree lighting to all of the showstopper storefronts worth oohing and ahhing over—the city is lit and sparkling! We get to embrace the merriest time of year and check off our list of things to do in New York City. Its wonders exceed expectations – the fantastic skyline, marvelous restaurants, theater, museums, sightseeing attractions, cultural centers, shops and magnificent architecture. Not to mention, the city is the premier historical gateway for legal immigration to the United States and a global symbol of freedom and cultural diversity. We explore a cross-section of the city’s fantastic offerings on our five-day tour, and we’ll see two terrific shows!
Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D
We arrive in NYC and then transfer to the Hilton Times Square for our four-night stay. To quote the hotel, “set in the heart of Times Square, our 44 stories soar above Manhattan’s skyline with panoramic views from our rooms and Zagat-rated restaurant. Step outside and you’ll be at the Empire State Building in 15 minutes. Broadway shows, Fifth Avenue shops, and Madison Square Garden are close by, and the 42nd Street station connects us to the rest of the city."
DAY 2 B,D
This morning, a local guide gives us a narrated city tour as we drive through many famous neighborhoods. This includes SoHo, Greenwich Village, Times Square, the Theater District, Hell’s Kitchen, Lincoln Center, Central Park and Columbus Circle. Some of the stops along the way include walking, so be sure to pack your warm clothing and mittens! End the tour at Eataly, an Italian marketplace offers a variety of lunch options. Afterwards, we visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, which illuminates singular experiences during and after September 11, 2001. Ending our first touring day, we take in the panoramic and breathtaking view of the city from One World Observatory. After rejuvenating a bit, we gather for a special dinner at the Capital Grille, with fine dining and service only New York can provide!
DAY 3 B,D
This morning is ours to enjoy before we meet up again to visit Brooklyn’s New York Botanical Gardens. It’s a special Holiday Train show displaying nearly 200 city landmarks, from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Statue of Liberty, all made from plants and organic materials with model trains weaving throughout. We head back to our hotel to freshen up for our pre-show dinner at John’s Pizzeria. The pizzeria has been voted one of New York's best pizzas because of its unique characteristics. All pizzas are made to order in one of four coal-fired brick ovens and like a cast iron pan, the ovens season with age, making no two pizzas the same. We’re off to see our first show, The Music Man! The new revival of the treasured show features Broadway and Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman as Harold Hill and Tony Award-winning actress Sutton Foster as ‘Marian the Librarian’. Can you believe we have center mezzanine tickets to see this performance?
DAY 4 B
Today we enjoy the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is one of the world’s finest art museums with a collection of over two million works. A seasonal display delights the eyes with the Christmas Tree & Neapolitan Baroque Creche; an expansive display where a magnificently lit towering tree looms over a vivid 18th century nativity scene. We continue to Rockefeller Center to see which enormous tree has been selected to decorate the plaza this holiday season. There is time to explore nearby St. Patrick Cathedral or the window displays along 5th Avenue before we take in a show at the Radio City Music Hall. This is not just any show, this is the Christmas Spectacular starring the Radio City Rockettes in the orchestra rows!
Afterwards, we visit the Bryant Park Winter Village. This is a winter wonderland in the middle of Manhattan with international food stand and artisanal boutiques inspired by the open-air markets of Europe.
Optionally this evening, see Hamilton, An American Musical, winner of 11 Tony Awards. Written by Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton is a true landmark of American culture, tearing up the musical theater rulebook with a score that is equal parts Sondheim and Notorious B.I.G., and a cast of ethnically diverse actors in the roles of the Founding Fathers. Inspired by Ron Chernow’s book, Alexander Hamilton (additional cost).
DAY 5 B
After breakfast, we have a bit more free time. Maybe try out a pierogi or indulge in dessert before lunch and have some of the New York-style cheesecake before we say farewell. It’s the holidays, and we’ve enjoyed the best of an amazing city!
