It’s jazz, cotton, sugar cane, iron-laced balconies, and great, white plantation homes. It’s glittering steamboats, trudging barges, and mammoth cargo ships on that big, muddy river. It’s bayous, crawfish etoufee, and sweet southern drawl. It’s New Orleans and delightful Dixie – AND it’s all ours!

Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D

DAY 1              D

We fly to New Orleans then cross the Mississippi River into Acadiana where the Cajuns live. Lodge one night in Houma, LA.

DAY 2              B,D

We see bayous, take a swamp tour, and drive the back roads of Cajun Country. At Avery Island, we tour the Tabasco Factory and the Jungle Gardens, which features azaleas, “gators,” and nesting snowy egrets. One night’s lodging in Lafayette in the heart of Cajun Country. Special dinner tonight!

DAY 3              B,D

This morning in St. Martinville, we stand under the Evangeline Oak on the bank of Bayou Teche and visit Evangeline’s Monument. We drive to Rosedown Plantation, famous for its live-oak avenue, lovely gardens, and original antique furnishings. Then we continue to Natchez, MS, home to over 300 antebellum homes, where we lodge two nights.

DAY 4              B,L

Today we enjoy a guided tour of Natchez with its magnificent mansions, open especially for the Natchez Pilgrimage. We enjoy a special lunch at the famous Carriage House. In the afternoon, there is free time to relax, or to further explore this lovely town in the Heart of Dixie.

DAY 5              B,D

We drive through historic St. Francisville, then reach Baton Rouge. Here we tour the State Capitol Building where Huey Long was assassinated. We continue to New Orleans and lodge two nights in the French Quarter.

DAY 6              B,D

A complete New Orleans city tour takes us beyond the French Quarter to the many facets of this cosmopolitan city. A walking tour of the French Quarter is a special treat. Our Farewell Dinner tonight is at The Court of Two Sisters, a New Orleans landmark.

DAY 7              B

Depending on our flights, there may be time to see one more attraction. Now that we have seen the best that Dixie has to offer, it’s time to return home with all our wonderful memories.
