Made up of three waterfalls with vertical drops between 69 and 187ft, Niagara Falls is breathtaking. “Niagara Falls lit up at night – I’ve never seen anything so spectacular! The ship took us right up to the falls where we could feel the mist from the towering waters. And then, to go to laid-back Mackinac Island. It was like stepping back in time. A trip of a lifetime!” - Robin Duke, SUN TOURS Tour Coordinator
Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D
DAY 1 D
We fly to Buffalo. We'll head into Ontario for our lodging near the falls. Upon arrival we'll take a look at the Falls before enjoying our welcome dinner. Don't miss the fireworks over the falls tonight!
DAY 2 B,L
Today we'll start with a city tour then view the falls from Skylon Tower before we get up close and personal with the Falls. We don slickers to board the Hornblower for a cruise to the base of the falls.
DAY 3 B
We travel through Ontario, stopping at Dundurn Castle, the 18,000 sq. ft mansion completed in 1935 for Sir Allan Napier McNab. Now owned by the City of Hamilton, ON and open to the public, Dundurn guides help us explore daily life in the 1850s. We cross the border back into the U.S. and arrive at our hotel in Michigan.
DAY 4 B
Boarding a ferry, we arrive on Mackinac Island, (pronounced “Mackinaw”) where we are transported to another world and time. Transportation is by horse-drawn carriages and bicycles only. We have a free afternoon and evening to explore the island’s attractions and shops. Two nights' lodging on Mackinac Island.
DAY 5 B,L
We take a carriage tour of Mackinac Island, and feast at the Grand Hotel’s luncheon buffet. The rest of the day is ours to explore this quaint town.
DAY 6 B,D
Today we ferry back to the mainland. In Frankenmuth, a local guide brings the town’s German heritage to life. After visiting Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland, the world’s largest Christmas store, we have free time to enjoy this friendly community. We stay one night in Frankenmuth.
DAY 7 B,D
Our factory tour of the Ford Rouge Plant is a first-hand journey behind the scenes of a modern, working automobile factory. This plant once employed 100,000 workers and has built Ford cars since the Model A. Nearby Greenfield Village features buildings that span 350 years of American history. At the Henry Ford Museum, we see fascinating exhibits on transportation, industry, agriculture, and home furnishings. Tonight we enjoy a farewell dinner together. One nights’ lodging in Dearborn.
DAY 8 B
After breakfast, we fly home with memories of summer in the North Country.
