Indiana & Michigan
with Tulips and Amish Country
May 8 - 14, 2023 (7 Days)

Love spring flowers but don’t have the inclination to travel to Amsterdam? SUN TOURS can help! Join us for the gorgeous floral displays at the Holland Tulip Time Festival in Holland, Michigan, then experience Amish Country in Indiana. We meet descendants of Dutch and Amish settlers who have kept their traditions alive and enjoy their history, food and arts and crafts.
Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D
DAY 1
We fly to Chicago and board our deluxe motorcoach to drive around the tip of Lake Michigan to Holland.
DAY 2 B
Holland was settled by Dutch immigrants in 1847. We drive along six miles of tulip lanes as we tour downtown. We see the Quilt Show and the Garden Club Show, then visit the Holland Museum which features Dutch Masters. Tonight we watch and hear the hundreds of locals dressed in Dutch costumes and wearing wooden shoes dance in the streets.
DAY 3 B, L
At Veldheer Tulip Gardens where 5 million bulbs are planted annually, the rainbow colored fields amaze us. This afternoon we will tour a Tall Ship, the "Friends Good Will", a replica Great Lakes sloop from 1810 owned and operated by the Michigan Maritime Museum.
DAY 4 B, L, D
We visit South Bend, Indiana and the iconic home of the Fighting Irish, Notre Dame, where we explore with a student guide. A visit to the South Bend Chocolate Company gives us energy for the afternoon and the Studebaker National Museum
DAY 5 B, D
Shipshewana is the heart of Indiana Amish Country. Our local guide will explain the Amish way of life and introduce us to its people. We visit an Amish baker, buggy maker, noodle maker and a school. We experience an Amish buggy ride and cooking demonstration and share a meal with an Amish family.
DAY 6 B
At the Menno-Hof Mennonite-Amish Visitors Center, we learn about the beliefs of these religious communities and discover the slow-paced way of life that the Amish enjoy. After free time, we visit an Amish dairy farm.
DAY 7 B
It’s been wonderful to see the colors of spring and get to know the people of Holland, MI and Amish country. Now it’s time to return to Chicago and fly home with warm memories.
