Traveling for 64-miles between Chama, NM and Antonito, CO, the Cumbres & Toltec is the longest and highest steam railroad in the nation and the most scenic, crossing the border of Colorado and New Mexico 11 times as it chugs its way up and over 10,015-foot-high Cumbres Pass. DAY 1
Join us as we drive up the Rio Grande Valley along the Sangre de Cristo Mountains via Taos to Colorado. Walk in Kit Carson’s footsteps at the Fort Garland Museum & Cultural Center. Experience the tallest sand dunes in North America at the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We lodge in Alamosa, Colorado.
DAY 2 B,L
At the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad depot in Antonito, we board America’s longest and highest narrow-gauge steam railroad. The train climbs steadily into the San Juan mountain range to the 10,015 foot-high Cumbres Pass. Having seen the best of the route, we disembark and board the waiting motorcoach. We ride along the train route to Chama as we return to Albuquerque.
