“Over the river and past the mountains to The Broadmoor we go.  The bus knows the way and needs no hay as up to Colorado we go.”  We’ll enjoy a relaxing few days and Thanksgiving feast at the beautiful Broadmoor Hotel and Resort, with fascinating excursions to Colorado Springs to enjoy The Air Force Academy and Garden of the Gods.

Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D

We follow the Santa Fe Trail, then cross Raton Pass into Colorado, stopping in Trinidad for lunch and a brief tour.  We then continue to the luxurious Broadmoor Resort Hotel in Colorado Springs where we lodge for three nights. The Broadmoor, a deluxe, 5-star resort, has 774 rooms and employs over 1,800 people. This iconic resort offers an escape from the ordinary. It has hosted heads of state, celebrities, and professional sports stars, including numerous U.S. presidents, Prince Harry, Margaret Thatcher, Clark Gable, Charles Lindbergh, John Wayne, James Brown, and Dorothy Hamill. Modern details blend seamlessly with its timeless European elegance. The original building, Broadmoor Main, was built in 1918, and is set on 3,000 pristine acres with spectacular views of Cheyenne Mountain.

DAY 2              L

We enjoy a guided tour of Colorado Springs—Millionaire’s Row, downtown, Old Colorado City, and the Garden of the Gods. Imagine dramatic views of 300’ towering sandstone rock formations against a backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak and brilliant blue skies. This is what awaits us in this 480-acre public park, conveyed to the City of Colorado Springs in 1909 by the children of Charles Elliott Perkins, the head of Burlington Railroad. Perkins first purchased 240 acres on which to build a summer home. Instead, he decided to add to the acreage and preserve it in its natural state for the enjoyment of the public. We enjoy its world-class Visitor & Nature Center and have a guided tour of this National Natural Landmark. After our lunch and tour, we visit Manitou Springs before returning to The Broadmoor for the evening.

DAY 3              L

We enjoy a quiet Thanksgiving Day and our feast at the Broadmoor’s lovely  lunch. We can stroll the resort grounds, visit some of the shops or sit with a cup of tea and a good book.

DAY 4

Thanksgiving at The Broadmoor was special. Before heading home, we have time for a guided tour of The Broadmoor. Then it’s time to retrace our route past Colorado’s snow-capped mountains, stop for lunch in Raton, and return to “Home, Sweet Home.”
