Nature meets culture, city sights intermingle with desert and beaches, and remarkable wildlife thrills us at every turn. We’ll indulge in the tropical paradise of Cairns, then discover the colorful vibrancy of the Great Barrier Reef. We explore the dazzling city and surrounding natural beauty of Sydney, then discover authentic Aboriginal and Maori cultures in all their complexity. We’ll admire New Zealand’s dramatic and breathtaking scenery in Milford Sound, where twinkling snow-capped mountains gaze down on calm turquoise waters. These are islands that defy the imagination, ignite the soul, and reveal a surreal ability to surprise! As you can see, we experience Australia and New Zealand from every angle with this iconic experience and untamed adventure.

DAY 1

We depart Albuquerque on our overnight flight to Cairns.

 

DAY 2                          DAY 3  D

In Cairns, we meet our Tour Director and transfer to our hotel for a three-night stay. This evening, we enjoy a special Welcome Dinner with our fellow travelers.

 

DAY 4                          B,L

Today, we experience a Catamaran Cruise to the Great Barrier Reef. On this tropical island paradise, we’ll enjoy an included lunch and can choose a glass bottom boat cruise, eco island walk, or snorkeling.

 

DAY 5                          B,D

Today is at leisure to enjoy Cairns at our own pace. Maybe take an optional excursion featuring the Kuranda Scenic Rail & Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Or the optional transfer to Freshwater Station to board the Kuranda Scenic Rail. Next, visit the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park to experience and interact with Australia’s 40,000-year-old aboriginal culture. Dinner is included at a local restaurant.

 

DAY 6                          B

We transfer to the airport for our flight to Sydney, enjoy an Opal presentation to learn how these raw gemstones are processed, and later check into our Sydney hotel to begin a 3-night stay.

 

DAY 7                          B

Today, we have a Sydney City Tour, including the Botanical Gardens, the Music Conservatory, Kings Cross, Chinatown, Paddington, the Rocks, and a stop for spectacular views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbor. Then, we visit and tour the Sydney Opera House, Australia’s most iconic structure. Later, we’ll explore Wild Life Sydney, featuring a koala sanctuary and an interactive walk-through of wallabies & birdlife along with other fascinating exhibits.

 

DAY 8                          B,D

The day is at leisure to relax or explore this exciting city on our own. Tonight, we relax with a special Sydney Harbor Dinner Cruise for spectacular views of this beautiful city.

 

DAY 9                          B,L

Enjoy the countryside while traveling via motorcoach to Canberra. Enroute, we visit an Aussie Sheep Station to learn about this unique way of life and enjoy an authentic Aussie BBQ Lunch. Upon arrival, we embark on a Canberra City Tour to see the billion-dollar New Parliament House, the High Court of Australia, the National Library, Lake Burley Griffin & Queen’s Terrace for sweeping city views. Next, we’ll board a short flight to Melbourne for a 2-night stay. 

 

DAY 10                        B

We start today with a Melbourne City Tour featuring Fitzroy Gardens, the Shrine of Remembrance, and the Parliament House. This afternoon, we enjoy Australia’s cultural capital Melbourne at leisure or enjoy an optional experience to Phillip Island, a renowned nature reserve and home to the world-famous Little Penguin Parade.  At sunset, the world’s smallest penguins emerge from the sea and waddle ashore to their sand dune burrows.  Also, you can enjoy dinner on Phillip Island before returning to Melbourne.

 

DAY 11                        B,D

Transfer to the airport for our flight to charming Christchurch, New Zealand, often referred to as the world’s most English city outside of England. We gather to enjoy dinner tonight with our fellow travelers.

 

DAY 12                         B,D

We enjoy a brief Christchurch City Tour highlighting the wonderful gardens and unique architecture. Then, we travel to adventurous Queenstown for a 2-night stay.

 

DAY 13                        B

Today is at leisure to enjoy Queenstown and its beautiful alpine scenery. An optional experience is available to Milford Sound. Remote, mysterious, and uniquely New Zealand, Milford Sound is a spectacular reminder of the forces of nature. Enjoy a Milford Sound Luncheon Cruise for breathtaking scenery and commentary on the natural history of the Sound. Our last night in Queenstown.

 

DAY 14                        B

Today, our airport transfer takes us to Rotorua, situated on New Zealand’s North Island. Upon arrival, we’ll head to Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve and Maori Village set amidst a landscape of erupting geothermal activity, hot thermal springs and bubbling mud pools. 

 

DAY 15                        B,D

This morning, we visit Rainbow Springs Nature Park to see live kiwi foraging, feed large Rainbow trout, and walk through the native New Zealand bush. Tonight, we’ll experience some New Zealand culture during your Maori Hangi Feast Dinner, featuring a traditional meal and entertainment.

 

DAY 16                        B,D

We take in the beautiful scenery of the North Island on our way to Auckland. Enroute, we delight in the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, one of New Zealand’s most celebrated attractions. Arriving in Auckland, we take a brief panoramic city tour to see the scenic waterfront area and the Auckland Tower. Tonight, we relish our farewell dinner and overnight in the Auckland Airport area.

 

DAY 17                        B

Today transfer to the Auckland Airport for your flight home.
