Rich autumn colors, fascinating Canada, and stunning landscapes are waiting for us on this very special tour. We’ll learn about the early history of New England, explore Old Québec and modern Montreal and enjoy the best of Vermont and New Hampshire on this two-nation fall foliage tour.
Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D
DAY 1 D
We depart the Albuquerque Sunport and fly east to Boston, MA to lodge one night.
DAY 2 B,L
This morning is our first peek at the fall colors we’ve come to see. Has Jack Frost been our friend, or do we need to be more patient? We head to the Omni Mount Washington Resort, one of the last of New Hampshire’s grand hotels, where a delicious lunch awaits us. Then it’s over the border and into Sherbrooke, Québec, where we lodge one night.
DAY 3 B
We see the beautiful countryside of southern Québec en route to Québec City. The beautiful walls of old Québec, built in the 1820s, now enclose the most charming and authentic architecture and atmosphere in North America. Our guided tour of Québec includes the Latin and French quarters, Place Royal, Plains of Abraham, and views of the Parliament building, the Citadel, and the walls and gates of Old Québec. Two nights’ lodging at a centrally-located hotel in Old Québec.
DAY 4 B,L
This morning, we drive along the St. Lawrence River to Sainte-Anne-De-Beaupre, the site of an impressive basilica for many pilgrims. At the 274-foot-high Montmorency Falls we ride a gondola to the top of the falls, where we have lunch at the Manoir Montmorency. After our return to Québec City, we have a free afternoon to explore the walled city.
DAY 5 B
We cross more pretty Québec countryside to reach Montreal, a vibrant, modern city that has retained much of its heritage. Our afternoon city tour of Montreal includes the sights of Vieux (Old) Montreal, the Basilica of Notre Dame, St. Helen’s Island, the Old Port, the Olympic Stadium, the view of the city from Mt. Royal, and much more. One night’s lodging in Montreal.
DAY 6 B,D
We leave Canada behind and cross Lake Champlain into Vermont. At the Shelburne Museum we see traditional buildings with art and artifacts that depict early New England life, American and French Impressionist art, 700 colorful quilts, and charming toys and dolls. One night’s lodging in South Burlington, VT.
DAY 7 B,L
We drive to Stowe to tour the Austrian-inspired Trapp Family Lodge, hear the story of the Von Trapp family and lunch in the Lodge’s dining room. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a tasting at Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. In nearby Barre we see Rock of Ages, the world’s largest granite quarry before checking into our Manchester, NH hotel for one night.
DAY 8 B
We have time for a tour of Boston today before we head to the airport for our flight, with our heads and hearts full of autumn colors and captivating history.
