Tennessee Christmas "Lands"
December 22 - 27, 2017 (6 Days)

We visit the famous “Lands” of Tennessee for a wonderful holiday celebration: Nashville’s Opryland and Memphis’ Graceland.  A presidential home, a duck parade, and sound studios add to the history and charm of this tour. 2017 is a historic year here. The Country Music Hall of Fame is celebrating 50 years, Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Ole Opry, is 125 years old, and we observe 40 years since Elvis has moved on to a new journey.  This Christmas trip will be full of good food, good music, and good company.

Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D

Day 1

We fly to Nashville, TN to begin a holiday excursion built on celebrations of milestones. Our coach will be waiting to take us to our first stop, RCA Studio B. Over 35,000 songs were recorded here by artists such as Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and even more recently, Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood. We’ll hear the stories behind the legendary recordings and view some of the original instruments used in producing over 1,000 hit records. Then we go to the Gaylord Opryland Resort which we will call home for four nights of celebration.

Day 2               B,L

Today starts with a tour of the “Mother Church of Country Music", the Ryman Auditorium.  2017 marks the 125th year this historic building has been used to bring country and gospel music to audiences. The holiday festivities are ringing loudly throughout Nashville as we travel to the Country Music Hall of Fame to view the newest exhibits dedicated to Loretta Lynn, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, and Shania Twain as well as all the wonderful inductees over the years. Ellendale’s Restaurant welcomes us for lunch, before we travel back to the hotel to rest up.  This evening we enjoy a holiday concert back at the Ryman Auditorium.

Day 3               B,D

We begin the day with an adventure around Nashville as our local guide shows us why this place is called “Music City U.S.A.”  Our city tour finishes at the gates to The Hermitage, the historic home of Andrew Jackson. General Jackson welcomed many important visitors to The Hermitage throughout his life. Continuing his tradition, the Hermitage staff will provide us with a warm, informative tour. After a free afternoon to enjoy the amenities and attractions of the Gaylord Opryland Resort, we get back together for a special dinner.

Day 4               B,L

A holiday celebration awaits us today. After a leisurely morning, we board the hotel shuttle and head to the dock of the General Jackson Showboat. During a cruise down the Cumberland River, we are treated to a holiday luncheon and show.  Once we dock, we have the afternoon and evening to enjoy the Opryland resort.

Day 5               B

We say goodbye to Nashville this morning and head across the state to Memphis.  On our way, we take a break at the Casey Jones Village in Jackson, TN.  We continue to Memphis and the Guest House at Graceland where we lodge for one night. We head over to Graceland, including the new 200,000 sq. ft. entertainment complex, “Elvis Presley’s Memphis.” that opened this year commemorating the 40th anniversary of Elvis’s death.  A night in Memphis is not complete without a stroll down Beale Street and a stop at the Peabody Hotel to see the Peabody Duck Parade.

Day 6               B

Our trip comes to an end today, but not before we get a city tour to see all the amazing sights of Memphis. Our private guide will escort us through the history of the Blues and Rock and Roll with a final stop to tour Sun Studios where Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Johnny Cash all recorded. After we enjoy the memorabilia and stories, we begin our journey back to Albuquerque with many memories of a Tennessee Christmas.
