Glorious Italy is famous for its beautiful art, fascinating sites, and delicious food. This thrilling tour takes us through the ancient and the modern as we explore Rome, the Vatican City, Sorrento, Naples and the beautiful, sunny Amalfi Coast. With stops for delicious foods and fascinating sights, this is the tour of Italy you've been waiting for.

Included meals are denoted: Breakfast: B, Lunch: L, Dinner: D

DAY 1

We depart from the Albuquerque Sunport for our overnight flight.

DAY 2             D

Welcome to Rome! After leaving our bags at our centrally located hotel, we have the afternoon free to explore. This evening, we meet our local Tour Guide and enjoy a welcome dinner. We lodge for three nights in Rome at the Hotel Diana Roof Garden.

DAY 3              B

While mythology dates the founding of Rome at around 753 BC, the site has been inhabited for much longer, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe. Ancient Rome comes to life during our visit to the Coliseum, Palatine Hill, and the Imperial Forums.

DAY 4              B

Today we are joined by our local guide to tour the Vatican Museum complex, including the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica. This afternoon, we enjoy a tour of Rome's great street foods, complete with gelato for dessert!

DAY 5              B, L

Today we head toward Sorrento but first we stop in Naples. Naples displays the contrasts that make Italy famous. The new interlaced with the old. Breathtaking beauty juxtaposed with the normal. The simple with the complex. The amalgam of sensorial stimulation the city exudes is impressive: piping hot pizzas and sweet sfogliatelle pastries tempt the taste buds; rich history recounted with the unforgettably unique accent that  simultaneously seems to start and stop; the friction of cobblestones underfoot; and the scent of espresso as locals undergo their time-tested coffee consumption rituals at cafés. We enjoy the world's best pizza in Naples before continuing on to our hotel in Sorrento.

DAY 6              B

The Amalfi Coast will take your breath away when you arrive and break your heart when you have to go. Its sunny scenery and welcoming locals make one feel like they have arrived in their dream home town. Its cliffs plunge poetically into the cobalt sea, punctuated only by bursts of verdant vegetation and by the lively little towns that dot its narrow main road as it winds along the southern half of the Sorrentine Peninsula. Its villages rise vertically in colorful bursts, mirrored in the water that kisses its shores. Ancient trails lead further
upwards to paths with names like the “Walk of Gods” that offer heavenly views of the marvels of Gulf of Salerno below.

DAY 7              B

Today we take a ferry to the site of Vesuvio's eruption and the city that was Pompeii. Pompeii is a vast archaeological site in southern Italy’s Campania region, near the coast of the Bay of Naples. Once a thriving and sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. The preserved site features excavated ruins of streets and houses that visitors can freely explore.  Our exclusive Sun Tours excursion will take us to Pompeii for the day.

DAY 8              B,L,D

We must turn our thoughts toward home but first we will enjoy lunch at a local farmhouse, where everything is homemade. We study mozzarella making and eating, then return to Rome for one last night. Once in Rome, we enjoy a farewell dinner.

DAY 9              B

We fly back to Albuquerque today, with tasty and wonderful memories of Rome, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.

Itinerary subject to change.
