SUN TOURS is New Mexico's oldest
and largest tour operator. How did that happen?
Sun Tours was founded on January 1, 1978, by
Karl Storch, who is still its "hands-on"
president. Our first three tours were
commissioned by the Albuquerque Office of Senior
Affairs and took place in September, October,
and November, 1978. The tours were so well
received that many more commissions were
forthcoming. In 1983 Sun Tours began offering
its tours directly to the public. By then we had
expanded our range of operations to the entire
western United States. Each tour destination had
been methodically researched, enabling us to
create the best possible itinerary.
SUN TOURS continued to expand its horizons. In
1983 we operated our first tour to the eastern
United States with a tour to Florida. In 1984 we
took our first group overseas for a tour of
Switzerland, Austria, and southern Germany,
which included the 350th anniversary performance
of the Oberammergau Passion Play. Also in 1984,
we operated our first tour to Canada—a wonderful
tour to the Canadian Rockies, which is still one
of our most popular destinations.
SUN TOURS’ first cruise was a Transcanal
itinerary with Sitmar Cruise Lines in 1986. It
was so successful that in 1987 we had four
groups cruising the seven seas!
In 1988 SUN TOURS joined the National Tour
Association, America's premier trade group for
tour operators. In 2000 SUN TOURS began its
series of "1-Night" tours to see the sights
close to home.
As the years have gone by, SUN TOURS has
fulfilled its motto: "Taking New Mexicans to see
the rest of the world."
Through this web site we are now attracting
people from far and wide to join our tours that
begin and end in Albuquerque.
Now is the time to take that trip you have been
thinking about. You deserve it. Find out why our
